    SA’s role in moon mission

From its Adelaide base, Southern Launch is tracking the Artemis II mission to assess the broader aerospace community’s tracking capabilities to support future moon and Mars missions.

Artemis II is carrying astronauts on a crewed flight around the moon, testing critical systems in preparing for future lunar landings.

Enabled by infrastructure at the Koonibba Test Range near Ceduna, Southern Launch is passively tracking the Orion spacecraft, enabling the collection of high-quality data without transmitting commands or signals to the vehicle.

Backed by expert advice and support from Invest SA, this local company has not only been part of establishing a new industry sector in our state, but they’re representing Australia in supporting deep space missions and highlighting the value of southern hemisphere ground infrastructure.
