Areas of focus

The Department of State Development is developing industry capability to ensure we have the workforce we need to harness the major opportunities coming our way, particularly in the defence and hydrogen industries. We’re also working across government to provide a roadmap for industries to become more sustainable and contribute to the state’s net zero emissions goal, and we’re developing a strategy to embrace sovereign manufacturing and re-industrialise the state in a low-carbon, clean industrial future.

Recognising that science, research and industry collaboration are fundamental drivers of innovation, we support research excellence, collaboration, translation and commercialisation. We are also harnessing critical technologies to drive innovation, solve problems and attract investment to the state.
