South Australia’s internationally recognised research and development sector will be used to accelerate the development of innovative technologies capable of addressing increasingly complex security and operational challenges in Poland and across Europe.
Defence technology company, RFTEQ, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with European sensing specialist XY-Sensing, to explore new opportunities across advanced radio frequency, radar, sensing and mission-system technologies.
The MoU, signed at MSPO, one of Europe’s largest military defence exhibitions, will include next-generation sensing and monitoring solutions for drones and unmanned systems, border security and critical infrastructure protection.
RFTEQ will be able to hire 30 additional staff over the next 12 months by scaling its specialist engineering, production, integration and support teams to meet growing demand for advanced detection and jamming platforms manufactured in South Australia.
“This MoU marks an important step for RFTEQ and XY-Sensing, bringing together complementary expertise to accelerate innovation, expand market opportunities and deliver advanced solutions for defence, security and critical infrastructure customers,” said David Kinnaird, CEO, RFTEQ.

The company’s growth targets are in line with their current trajectory which is expected to create an additional 150 positions in the four years to follow. The expansion will support Australia’s sovereign capability, create high-value domestic manufacturing jobs and generate new export opportunities into Europe, while supporting the broader Australian defence industry through increased supply chain activity, technical collaboration and delivery capacity.
RFTEQ and XY-Sensing’s partnership was supported in Europe by Westberi, which provides assistance to Australian defence technology companies seeking to establish partnerships and expand into European markets.
The next phase will be to evaluate potential initiatives, engage with industry and government stakeholders, and explore opportunities in both domestic and international markets.
