Spencer Gulf Jobs and Skills Hub

Building a skilled workforce in South Australia's Spencer Gulf region

A $6 million Jobs and Skills Hub is being established by the South Australian Government to support workforce development in the state’s Upper Spencer Gulf Region.

Initially, the Whyalla-based Hub is supporting the transition of workers and contractors who have lost their jobs with the Whyalla Steelworks or supply chain companies to access free career counselling, training, and transition into other employment.

It will play a role in supporting the Whyalla steelworks to access the skilled workers required to keep this critical infrastructure operational.

Operating out of the Hub, a dedicated Workforce Manager will work with service providers, regional employers and industry partners across the Upper Spencer Gulf to help the region to build its workforce and meet its significant projected workforce requirements in sectors such as renewable energy, resources, steelmaking and other manufacturing industries, construction and health.

You can access services through the Spencer Gulf Jobs and Skills Hub right now, including training and the Career Transition Service, located at the Whyalla City Council.

Services to be delivered by the Spencer Gulf Jobs and Skills Hub include:

    • A range of information sessions and workshops to equip workers with practical skills and advice
    • General support and advice to help workers navigate changes in their jobs and careers
    • Jobseeker referral into a number of available supports and services
    • Facilitation of training, including recognition of prior learning, upskilling and reskilling
    • Tailored industry projects and programs that lead to workforce outcomes.
