To ensure South Australia could take part in this global story, the state and Australian governments made a strategic investment in the Australia Pavilion, giving South Australian businesses an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their premium produce to an international audience.
Over the course of the Expo, more than 25 tonnes of South Australia’s premium produce were delivered to Osaka, where visitors to the Australia Pavilion could access a South Australian ‘Buy What You Try’ online portal to instantly purchase SA products. This resulted in nearly 240 kilograms of our seafood and more than 3,000 cases of Coopers consumed in the six-month duration.
As a gold partner of the Australia Pavilion, South Australia had a prime opportunity to network on a global scale. Fitting with the theme of the Australia Pavilion, ‘Chasing the Sun’, we showcased the state’s clean energy and low emissions technologies and strengthened our position as a renewables powerhouse and a preferred partner on energy security.
World Expo Osaka offered South Australia’s businesses valuable access to the key East Asian market through industry meetings, business roundtables, showcases, cultural performances and promotional activities, and the opportunity to promote their businesses to global companies and seek new investment opportunities.
Through the South Australian Government’s gold sponsorship of the Australia Pavilion, we provided curated programs for our local exporters and businesses to come to Japan and not only participate in events at the Pavilion, but also leverage our presence to make connections with people in Tokyo and other cities.
During the Expo, the Department of State Development worked across government to facilitate dozens of business missions and trade events to support our state’s exporters and grow two-way investment internationally. Our talented offshore office network in Japan and Korea was instrumental in facilitating these connections and finding opportunities to promote South Australia’s unique products and services.
This huge effort has championed South Australia’s incredible industries, forged new global connections and elevated our local businesses and exporters.
