South Australia’s food, wine and agriculture showcased to the world

A delegation of CEOs from leading South Australian food, wine and agribusiness companies have headed to Japan to showcase the state’s premium produce as part of World Expo 2025 in Osaka.

The delegation, which includes representatives from South Australia’s leading wine, seafood, agrifood, nuts and meat industries, will head to Tokyo for high-level industry engagements before making the trip to Osaka as part of the World Expo’s food-themed ‘Necessities of Life’ week.

With more than 150 nations and regions participating in World Expo 2025, the six-month long event is expected to attract 28 million visitors.

The South Australian Government, a Gold Partner of the Australian Government’s ‘Australia Pavilion’, will host a series of showcase events, live demonstrations and business meetings to leverage the opportunity to drive global trade and investment for the state with key markets of focus.

As South Australia’s largest export, the food and beverage sector accounted for 60 per cent of all South Australia’s exports to Japan (year ending April 2025), valued at $327.5 million. South Australia’s total exports to Japan were valued at $537 million with beef exports climbing 69.1 per cent to $72.2 million.

The company delegation includes representatives from Almondco Australia, Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association, Balco Australia, CH4 Global, Food South Australia, Langmeil Winery, Macro Group Australia, Metala Wines, Prohibition Liquor Co., South Australian Wine Industry Association, Thomas Foods International, Vinarchy and Wirra Wirra.

The visit comes as recent ABS figures reveal a record three-year period for South Australia’s exporters, with $51.7 billion of local goods sold to the world between April 2022 and March 2025, nearly 40 per cent higher than the $37 billion sold in the preceding three years.
