Opening doors for defence companies in the UK

The Premier and Treasurer recently led a high-level delegation of SA-based defence industry executives to the United Kingdom to further our engagement and understanding of the global defence industry.

The delegation was provided with valuable insights into industry needs and focused on opportunities to maximise potential benefits for South Australian defence companies to be part of global supply chains.

A key focus of the visit was South Australia’s presence at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) conference in London - one of the world’s largest defence and security exhibitions. More than 50 South Australian companies and research organisations showcased their advanced capabilities across defence, space, and cyber sectors.

While in the UK, the South Australian Government signed a landmark agreement with Rolls-Royce to collaborate on workforce development, skills training, and critical technologies.

This partnership will bring Rolls-Royce’s nuclear expertise to Australia and help co-design initiatives to grow a diverse, skilled workforce, with a strong focus on STEM and addressing key skills gaps.

A skilled workforce is essential to maintaining South Australia’s leadership in defence delivery, and this partnership with Rolls-Royce marks a significant step forward.

To further support local companies expanding into international markets, the South Australian Government also established a new Defence and Space Landing Pad in London, in partnership with the Office of the Agent General.

The facility offers workspace and boardroom access, along with on-the-ground support from the Agent General and Defence SA’s UK-based Defence Industry Director.

With several South Australian companies already operating in the UK, this initiative will make it easier for more businesses to establish a presence and access UK supply chains.

The defence industry remains a vital part of South Australia’s economy, and the government is committed to unlocking new global opportunities for local businesses.
