New support available for Whyalla’s businesses and workers

The Australian and South Australian Governments are providing nearly $100 million in support programs to help businesses and workers affected by the decline in steelmaking in Whyalla, and OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd (OneSteel) entering administration.

A Whyalla Emergency Response Package has been announced to provide significant funding to support businesses and workers throughout this period of administration.

If you or your business have been impacted, you may be eligible for the following assistance:

    • Whyalla Creditor Assistance Payments – Payments are available for eligible businesses owed money by designated OneSteel entities, to help maintain cash flow.
    • Whyalla Small Local Business Support Grant – Grants of $10,000 for businesses that have experienced a reduction in turnover due to the reduced capacity of Whyalla's steelworks.
    • Additional business and personal supports – Including financial advisory services, business mentoring, diversification workshops, and mental health and wellbeing support.

If your employment has been affected, the Career Transition Service can connect you with career counselling and free training opportunities.

If you’re an apprentice who has been impacted, you can contact the South Australian Skills Commission for help continuing their studies or transitioning to a new employer.
