    South Australia's ongoing economic prosperity depends on our ability to discover and implement innovative solutions.

    Now in their 20th year, the South Australian Science Excellence and Innovation Awards spotlight the state's exceptional capabilities, showcasing them to Australia and the global community.

    Professor Maria Makrides, South Australian Scientist of the Year in 2022, leads one of the premier research centres at the forefront of mother-infant nutrition research in the world – the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). She was recognised for her research on using nutritional interventions to improve the lives of pregnant women and young children.
