The South Australian Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, is investing $10 million through the National Skills Agreement to strengthen and grow the vocational education and training (VET) workforce.
To ensure we design practical, targeted solutions that address key workforce opportunities and challenges specific to South Australia’s VET workforce context, we are seeking views and insights from registered training organisations (RTOs) and educators on how best to direct this investment.
The purpose of this engagement is twofold: to understand South Australia’s VET workforce and identify the challenges it faces, and to explore priorities including attraction, retention and career development to ensure South Australia’s VET workforce is equipped for the future.
We are looking to design practical, targeted solutions such as pathways for industry professionals into VET teaching, induction and mentoring for early career educators, upskilling for experienced educators, and practitioner-as-researcher initiatives.
We have invited trainers, assessors and RTOs currently delivering VET training or assessment to South Australian students to contribute their views on:
- workforce challenges and pressures
- recruitment and retention challenges
- professional development needs
- teaching and induction experiences
- what helps you stay in the sector
- actions that would make the greatest difference in addressing these challenges.
Feedback will help us build a clearer picture of the current VET workforce context in South Australia and will directly inform professional development opportunities, mentoring and induction support, and strategies to improve career pathways and workforce sustainability across our VET sector.
These insights will be invaluable in helping to ensure our initiatives reflect real practice, address barriers, and build on what works for VET educators in South Australia.
The survey is open now and will close at 5.00pm on Sunday 15 February.
