    SA wine flows for China wine masterclass

    South Australian wine flowed at the South Australian Regional Heroes – Diverse and Distinct Wine Masterclass in Shanghai last week, held as part of Wine Australia’s China Roadshow.

    Wine Australia’s China Roadshow features nearly 30 wine producers showcasing South Australian wines over a two-week period, providing a platform for South Australian wine exporters to access key trade opportunities, while building familiarisation with the current state of the market, visiting four tier-one cities – Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing.

    The South Australian Government is supporting the South Australian producers with business matching and tailored importer introductions at the trade show and Masterclass through the Wine Exporters China Re-Engagement Support Package, a $1.85 million program, funded over two years to support re-engagement with the China market.

    The Masterclass featured 10 South Australian wines, focusing on the diversity and uniqueness of South Australia’s regions, including Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Eden Valley and Langhorne Creek. The brands on show at the Masterclass included:

    • Taylors Wines
    • Dandelion Vineyards
    • Leinert Vineyards
    • Hither and Yon
    • Auld Family Wines
    • Stonehaven
    • Haselgrove Wines
    • Bremerton Wines
    • Schubert Estate

    “We have learnt that demand for Australian wine in China is still high, however the market has changed,” said Max Gu, Wine Maker and Regional Sales Manager (Asia), Schubert Estate.

    “Local importers are carefully choosing the products that they want was there is a lot of competition in the wine industry – however, there are still opportunities for our wine, and it is good for us that South Australian wine is highly recognised.

    “Our presence will enable us to re-connect with existing customers and to seek out new customers. This is a really good opportunity to re-enter the China market and it is very helpful to have the support of the South Australian Government.”

    South Australian food and wine was also served at a ‘Taste of South Australia’ showcase dinner in Shanghai, providing the opportunity for guests to learn more about the state’s premium food and wine offering.
