The South Australian Government will invest $3.9 million over two years to increase support for South Australian Wine export industry.
The Global Wine Growth Program will be led by the Department of State Development, in collaboration with the South Australian wine industry - drawing on their experience and expertise to design a program that delivers strong commercial outcomes.
The program, which represents an uplift in export support for the wine sector, will target mature markets like China, the United States, United Kingdom, as well as emerging wine markets like Southeast Asia.
It is also expected to include support for industry participation in international business missions and inbound buyer visits.
Initiatives through the Global Wine Growth Program will support the plan outlined in the South Australia Trade and Investment Strategy to 2030 – set to be unveiled on Wednesday 24 July.
Already one of state’s largest export industries, South Australian wine accounted for 67 per cent of Australia’s total global wine exports in the 12 months to May 2025 - at $1.76 billion of $2.62 billion.
The Global Wine Growth Program expands on the substantial success of the $1.85 million Wine Exporters China Re-engagement Support Program, which assisted the industry to recover 90 per cent of the all-time peak wine exports to China in just one year.
Thanks to the strong return of wine exports to the China market, the state’s wine exports grew by more than $300 million (up 21.5 per cent) in the year to May 2025.
South Australia is home more than 700 wineries across 18 distinct wine regions -producing 80 per cent of Australia’s premium wine.
South Australia is also responsible for 70 per cent of Australia’s wine and grape research capability.
