Jobs created as Whyalla Steelworks administration progresses

The revival of the Whyalla Steelworks has reached a positive milestone with administrator KordaMentha announcing the imminent creation of around 100 new jobs across the steelworks and associated mining operations.

Skilled workers in demand include health, safety and risk personnel, as well as supply logistics workers, refiners, melters, production operators, caster operators and crane operators. Former employees and contractors of OneSteel are being prioritised in the recruitment process.

As part of the broad package of support for Whyalla workers and businesses impacted by the Steelworks’ challenges, the South Australian Government is mapping the Upper Spencer Gulf’s future workforce requirements and funnelling investment into areas of greatest impact.

For example, the recently launched Regional and Industry Partnerships Program invites employers and other eligible industry organisations to apply for project funding that connects Upper Spencer Gulf jobseekers with local employment opportunities.
