    Funding unlocked for Whyalla workers

Could your organisation assist with job creation in the Upper Spencer Gulf?

Employers and other eligible industry organisations are now invited to apply for project funding that connects Upper Spencer Gulf jobseekers with local employment opportunities.

Through the new Regional and Industry Partnerships Program, successful grant applicants – which may include businesses, industry bodies, not-for-profits, Aboriginal corporations and regional development authorities – must demonstrate how their project will:

    • Connect workers with employment, including supporting workers from the Whyalla Steelworks or the supply chain who have lost their jobs into new roles
    • Improve workforce outcomes for disengaged and disadvantaged people, ensuring everyone benefits from the growth in the region, with a particular focus on supporting long-term unemployed, young, and Aboriginal people in the region
    • Build the workforce in priority sectors, ensuring the region and its workforce is ready to take advantage of opportunities in mining, resources and energy, construction and manufacturing, as well as responding to growth in sectors like health care and social assistance.

    Support for impacted workers

Whyalla jobseekers can engage with career advisory and employment services through the Spencer Gulf Jobs and Skills Hub, currently location at the Whyalla City Council.

Delivered by RDA Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) in partnership with Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA), the Career Transition Service equips each participant with a tailored career plan, which may include referrals to free accredited training.

Training, subsidised by the South Australian Government for contractors and workers impacted by the current downturn in Whyalla’s steelmaking, includes opportunities such as Fee Free TAFE and other VET courses, Recognition of Prior Learning, and accredited occupational tickets and licences.
