First Nations businesses on the global stage at World Expo

First Nations companies from South Australia have been supported by the South Australian Government to participate in World Expo 2025 Osaka at the Australia Pavilion from 4-10 August as part of Te Aratini Indigenous Peoples Week.

Designed to explore export and investment opportunities in the Japanese market, the Department of State Development has supported the companies as part of the First Nation’s Uplift Program which has been developed in partnership with key Aboriginal stakeholders and other government agencies.

The recent launch of the South Australia Trade and Investment Strategy to 2030 also details programs and initiatives aimed at driving Aboriginal business growth domestically and internationally.

The three First Nations companies include Seven Seasons, whose founder and former Port Adelaide AFL player, Daniel Motlop, participated in World Expo to showcase the traditional methods of harvesting to create the world’s oldest new flavours inspired by the seven seasons of the Larrakia people.

Munda Wines, co-founded by Brand SA Board member, Pauly Vandenbergh, honours the land and the Country, elevating the classic varietals Australia does best and Dominic Smith, founder of Diramu Skincare, harnesses native plants for healing and wellbeing, integrating research and experience across the beauty, agricultural and biotech fields to create products that nourish the skin and spirit.

While there, the companies took part in business matching events, product pitches and cultural programming at the Australia Pavilion – aimed at showcasing South Australia’s First Nations business capabilities to key buyers and importers.

The World Expo program also leverages the massive international reach, with more than one million people already visiting the Australia Pavilion since April 2025.

World Expo 2025 Osaka is the largest global exhibition of its kind. During its six-month duration, 28 million visitors are expected to attend.

As a Gold Partner of the Australia Pavilion, the South Australian Government has committed $1 million to build upon the importance of the strategic relationship it shares with Japan and has been supporting South Australian companies and stakeholders at World Expo through its Tokyo trade and investment office.
