First cohort graduates from Defence Industry Pathways Program

The next generation of South Australia’s defence industry workforce has taken an important step forward, with the first cohort of the Defence Industry Pathways Program (DIPP) officially graduating.

Fourteen trainees were recently recognised at the PEER graduation ceremony, marking the successful completion of the program’s inaugural intake.

The Defence Industry Pathways Program is a 12-month paid traineeship that equips participants with the skills needed to kickstart rewarding careers in South Australia’s growing defence sector. Graduates receive a Certificate III in Defence Industry Pathways while undertaking industry placements that provide hands-on experience with a diverse range of defence employers.

Delivered by PEER in partnership with TAFE SA, the program provides exposure to a range of priority occupations supporting defence capability, including logistics, engineering, drafting, design, safety and cyber security.

Developing a skilled workforce is critical to building and sustaining Australia’s sovereign nuclear-powered submarine capability - the most significant upgrade to Australia’s defence capability in its history. Programs such as the DIPP help ensure industry has access to job-ready workers equipped to contribute to complex, long-term national security projects.

The DIPP is an initiative of the South Australian Defence Industry Workforce and Skills (SADIWS) Report and Action Plan, a joint commitment between the Australian and South Australian Governments to attract, skill and grow an agile, highly skilled workforce to support defence industry growth.

As graduates transition into employment, the program is strengthening South Australia’s defence industry workforce, while creating new pathways into high-skill, high-demand careers.
