A Disability Industry Development and Market Coordinator General has been appointed to maximise the economic and job opportunities through the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Rob DiMonte, former Managing Partner of the South Australian office of Deloitte and experienced management consultant, has been appointed to the role and will start on Monday.

The NDIS is being rolled out progressively across South Australia and once fully implemented will support 32,000 South Australians living with disability and create more than 6000 jobs.

Mr DiMonte will help South Australian businesses to manage the significant transition to ensure the economic benefits, including job creation, are realised and help the State Government engage with the disability sector and associated industries.

He will also support disability provider organisations to apply for the State Government’s $200 million Future Jobs Fund, to drive employment growth and new investment in the disability sector.

Mr DiMonte has more than 35 years’ experience helping clients in the public and private sectors in business strategy, technology implementation and operations improvement.

This includes as Chair of Hood Sweeney and Australian Grain Technologies, as President of the RSPCA South Australia and Deputy Chair of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation.

The workforce in the South Australian disability sector is expanding to support new services which will be available under the NDIS. More than 6000 jobs will be created across the State in coming years.

The State Government’s Future Jobs Fund will provide businesses and non-government organisations with grants from $100,000 to $5 million, and low interest loans from $100,000 to $10 million across five key sectors, including in the health and disability sector.

Applications close on Friday 29 September.

NDIS Industry Development and Market Coordinator General Rob DiMonte said: "The effective roll out of the NDIS in South Australia is critical to the wellbeing of many South Australians.

"As a passionate South Australian it is a privilege to play my part in ensuring its success. I look forward to engaging with those who want to play their part and providing them with the coordination and guidance they require.

"The business and job creation opportunities are significant however there will be a focus on new business models, capabilities and resources. There is now some urgency for providers to become NDIS ready."
